Reebok Question Review

By Anthony Levine, longtime sneaker collector.

After picking up some Instapumps, I wasn’t sure what the next Reeboks were going to be for the collection. The Reebok Question is Allen Iverson’s signature shoe and first released in 1996. I’m not sure if the lows also first released around that time, but being more of a fan of low tops in my old age, I tend to go more for those anyway.

Reebok Question

The white and green lows I picked up seem to be based on a very similar pair of Reebok Questions worn by Rajon Rondo in 2006. His version were mids and had white on the back of the tongue but otherwise the colorway is pretty much the same. Product photos of the lows on Reebok’s website showed green hexalite windows but the actual release looks closer to Rondo’s PE with clear hex.

Personally I love the white/green lows I picked up! I made a video when I was shopping for some new Reeboks, and after process of elimination I wound up grabbing some Instapumps and these. The shoe is the cleanest Question that’s out at the time in my personal opinion. I’ve owned Reebok Question Lows before so I already kind of knew what to expect. As soon as I saw these were going to release, I marked my mental calendar and made sure to get a pair. I was able to grab them for around retail from Bodega a day before the official release on the Reebok site.

The shade of green that’s used on the white/green lows hits perfectly off the white. To be honest, the Reebok Question always kind of reminded me of the Air Jordan 11 due to the round laces and how the toebox looks. Particularly when they go with the translucent sole. This may seem blasphemous to some, but aesthetically I enjoy these as a low more than the 11 low. I know the term “dad shoe” is getting played out, but these also randomly have dad shoe vibes to them. As in, when I first showed them to my wife, she immediately commented on their dadliness.

Details/Materials

For the white/green lows, starting off we have a green Reebok logo stitched onto a leather tongue. At least, it’s leather at the top, but actually mesh as we move down the tongue. Note the green back here, for me the primary difference from the Rondo PE besides the cut.

We have what I think are nylon aglets inside plastic overlays. I think the plastic overlays look a little cheesy on here but probably help add structure here in some way. At the toebox we have some green leather.

Moving to the side we have pretty much all white leather. We can see the Reebok logo stitched in green on the side. Down below we see the clear Hexalite windows although these are here just for show. On the back we have more white leather plus a green leather hit with the Question logo stitched in white. Below that we have the white and green 3 stitched into a green leather patch onto a piece of the outsole comes up the back. To refresh your memory, Iverson jersey number was 3.

The insole is green with a white Reebok logo. Meanwhile the outsole is translucent green with the Reebok logo and letters coming down the forefoot. We get a Hexalite logo towards the back and a small window where you can see the actually active Hexalite cushioning in the heel.

These ship with round laces (white for the white/green lows) and come in a mostly black Reebok box. The top of the box has the I3 logo and Iverson’s signature.

How is the Quality?

The quality on Questions is going to depend on the release. For the white and green lows, I find the quality on the leather to be surprisingly good. Both the green and white leather is soft, plush and relatively thick cuts. You can see what looks like natural tumble on the uppers. So as far as the leather goes, these are very nice! The craftsmanship is not perfect. I feel like Reeboks can suffer from design choices that take away from the premium feel. For example the hexalite windows have this rubbery plastic over the top. This looks ok but texturally feels a bit cheap. Still, for the price these retail for, you definitely get a good value here as far as the leather quality. This may not be consistent across all pairs of Questions out there. On the pair I have, it is one of the best things about the shoe.

How Do The Reebok Questions Fit?

I normally wear a size 9.5 in most Reeboks. I consider that my true size. These to fit comfortably snug at a 9.5 so if you like that fit I recommend whatever you normally get in Reebok just stick with that same true to size. If you don’t want the 1:1 fit though, you might consider going a half size up as my toes go pretty close to the edges of the shoe at true size.

Given that the upper of the white/green lows is all soft supple leather, I find these to be very comfortable as far as the upper. It fit fine right away with no break in and will probably break in and stretch out even further. I found they fixed the sharpness of the tongue at the top; this cut into my ankle on the last pair I owned which is why I got rid of them. It feels way more padded here. The upper in general has a very padded, plush feel.

Underfoot these have similar cushioning to other 90s retros as far as I can tell. They feel pretty solid underfoot with just a little bit of give. Nothing mind blowing, but comfy enough to wear around for a few hours without my feet starting to hurt. While I’d still go for a runner for all day wear, these are very comfy and if I had to rock them all day, I easily could.

Conclusion

I think I have my token pair of Questions with the white/green lows here. In particular, the white and green is such a classic color combo that looks very crisp in hand and when worn. These don’t include a lot of extras, but then again they aren’t particularly pricey for a signature retro basketball shoe either. I’m really surprised at the materials they’re using in a good way, I could immediately feel the quality when pulling them out of the box. The comfort seems to be improved on these at least on the upper from what I experienced before. These are actually fairly comfy for some old Reebok bball shoes. I think the best part about all of it though is they look great on feet!
